Sciatica/ Sciatic pain is one common form of back pain. Patients typically experience lower back pain radiating to one side of the buttock, back of the leg and even further down to calf muscle. Other common symptoms include feelings of pins and needles down to the leg. Sciatica is caused by irritation or compression to the sciatic nerve. Lumbar spine degeneration, prolapsed intervertebral disc and tight piriformis muscle are all possible causes that may lead to such irritation.
Our physiotherapists first assess through movement analysis and functional testing to confirm the cause and location of sciatic irritation. Manual therapy and acupuncture are used to relax tight back and thigh muscles, along with nerve gliding exercise to solve the problem.
